Cause and Effect of the Cuban Revolution

CITIZENS- Fidel Castros victory against Fulgencio Batista created equal rights for many minorities and for all genders. This was a huge part of Castro's marketing and propaganda.
GOVERNMENT- Fulgencoi Batista was US backed and followed a democratic government. When Castro took over he changed the government to a dictatorship which destroyed Cuba's ties with the US> TRADE- Cuba had many trade routes before Castro and his men took over. After that almost all trade with outside countries was abolished except for with Russia who was the main supporter of Cuba. |
CITIZENS- A huge promise Castro made in his uprising was equal rights for all races and genders. This was granted after he took office but social freedom was brought down to almost nothing
OTHER COUNTRIES- Cuba's image as a democratic nation helped them in numerous ways. Now as a Dictator controlled country many countries stopped supporting Cuba all together. Cuba still had a major Allie which was Russia who largely backed Cuba. |
TRAVEL- Travel bans on Cuba were placed everywhere across the globe. The US placed a travel ban on Cuba almost immediately after Fidel took over. The travel ban lasted close to 50 and was only lifted in late 2016- early 2017.
MILITARIZATION-The Cold War brought a new way of viewing military power. Russia was using Cuba as a weapons cabinet incase of a large scale invasion or nuclear war. After the Cold War ended Russia had to withdraw all of its nuclear weapons from Cuba but they did not have to revoke any other large amounts of weapons which left Cuba with a huge amount of military firepower. |
Gained
Within the first decade of Castro and his associates being in power they created a new range of social reforms. They created new progressive laws creating equality for black people and fair rights for Cuban women. More medical departments and housing were made to support working Cubans. Children were now receiving some education as opposed to no education when Fulgencio Batista was in control. Fidel made a promise in his up rise and stuck to his word.
"The equal right of all citizens to health, education, work, food, security, culture, science, and wellbeing - that is, the same rights we proclaimed when we began our struggle, in addition to those which emerge from our dreams of justice and equality for all inhabitants of our world - is what I wish for all."

Lost
However rights and well being improved infrastructure still lacked behind enormously. Some countries were still trading with Cuban or had restored trade routes, there was still a huge embargo which had cut off almost all trade. along with that Cuban propaganda showed the future of the country as prosperous and built stronger than ever while American propaganda portrayed anything in relation to Cuban as hellish and awful, so a major down fall is America's relation with Cuba still remained poor.
